Setting up an outdoor classroom (Handout)

Use Setting up an outdoor classroom to help create an outdoor space that is practical, easy to use and nurtures your muddy puddle curriculum. The muddy puddle teacher approach has been created for teachers by teachers. This pack will encourage you to upcycle and find items for free as well as ways to also find natural items.

Setting up an outdoor classroom will help you:

  • Source upcycled materials
  • Source natural items such as logs and sticks
  • Make your environment safe
  • Make your environment usable in all weathers

This handout goes perfectly with our accredited training. Our training trains you on our approach. Our approach is not just about outdoor learning its about nurturing the curriculum in a natural way. Balancing indoors with the outdoors can provide children with health and mental wellbeing they need to have confidence towards their education.

Richard Louv talks a lot about nature deficit and the impact this can have on a childs wellbeing. If we can work towards a curricuum that helps wellbeing then we are one step forward into allowing all children to learn and progress by removing those boundaries. Richard is truly inspiring and he has written many books surrounding this very important issue.
