Muddy Fingers (Fine Motor Scheme of Work)

Muddy Fingers (Fine Motor Scheme of Work) can be done inside or out but does use natural resources. Every half term focuses on a new natural material and will encourage the children to keep busy while exercising their hands.

This is a five minute a day Muddy Fingers programme, using only natural items. It is the perfect blend of physical education and knowledge and understanding of the world.  Nature-based learning at its best!

Play has undoubtedly changed since we were kids. When we were younger, we played outside more and with hands-on, open-ended toys and involved others. With this change in play hand dexterity has become a concern, and children are not exercising their hands like they used, which is essential for reading and writing.
