Use Outdoor Learning to support SEND
Outdoor learning is a fabulous and often overlooked teaching method. Many teachers consider their indoor approach and what methods and schemes they use but many see the outside space as merely there or playtimes and lunchtimes.
Do not get us wrong, we are thankful the children get these times because it gives them unstructured play and we are all up for more of that.

However it is also a fabulous method to deliver a curriculum that looks at the varying needs of their children and appreciate that each are unique. Indoors teachers in general stick to the same kind of way to teach and involve children sitting in seats and the teacher, teaching from the board. We feel these days should soon be over as we realise our children are very smart learners who want the practical experience to explore and have more adventures with their learning.
Outdoor learning can offer in particular SEND a very interactive curriculum to support all needs and to help them flourish in particular it can help with:
- Physical development
- Mental Strength
- Communication and language skills
- Social skills
- Sensory skills
- Personal development
