5 top tips to nurture teacher wellbeing
Teacher wellebing and nurturing your teachers has never been so important. Here are 5 top tips to help teachers feel approeciated in their role.
- Have a weekly 10 minute chat with each staff member (seperate from a staff meeting and 1-1) and it is nothing about work. It is about their family life. How are they? How are things at the moment? How is family? Is there anything that is worrying you? If the teacher gives you a lot back then maybe that is a ‘red flag’ for a wellbeing chat so thighs can be talked over. Just like you would a friend.
- Add some treats.
- Every half term hand each educator a personalised card just saying what you have appreciated about them this half term.
- Have a bacon sandwich morning and make the staff a bap.
- Have employee of the week and share out why
- Pop some biscuits in the staff room but remember to say why you have put them there.
- Negativity flies around fast so keep your language positive. Pop some inspirational posters around the school. It just reminds people to keep that positive mindset. Say lots of things that are going well. For anything negative you may have to say make sure there is lots of positivity before and after it.
- Learning is endless and education is constantly on the move so it is natural and easy to fall into the ‘what next’ game. By doing this it feels like there is never any let up. Be very strategic when you introduce something new and really analyse whether this is a good time. If it’s a big task, drip feed it in, little by little. It will be more well received and allows the staff to gently digest it.
- Let staff pick up their children at least once a week. There are schools now doing this and it’s a great moral boost. It is really hard for teachers to attend their own children’s performances and pick ups. But they are mummies and daddies too and this could mean the muddy word to them.
