What Is STEM Education?

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

These subjects are often taught separately, but STEM learning helps children see how they work together.

A real-world problem may require children to investigate materials, measure accurately, design a solution, test their ideas and use technology to record or present the results.

You do not need a woodland, Forest School programme or specialist outdoor classroom.

A playground can be an excellent STEM space because it provides distance, surfaces, structures, shadows, drainage, movement and measurable features.

The focus is on using the outdoor environment purposefully rather than relying on a particular type of setting.
